SS Normannia (1890)


SS Normannia was a steamship. It was built in Glasgow, Scotland by Fairfield Govan. It was completed in 1890 and launched 9 February of that year. It was owned by the Hamburg America Line. Normannia was long and wide. It was hit by a tidal wave in January 1894 en route from New York, New York to Algiers, Algeria. In 1898, it was purchased by the Spanish Navy for use in the Spanish–American War. It was acquired in the following year by the Compagnie Générale Transatlantique for debt payment. Normannia was scrapped beginning in September 1906.
