Moldova participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2007 in Helsinki, Finland. The Moldovan entry was selected through an internal selection, organised by the Moldovan broadcaster TeleRadio-Moldova. Natalia Barbu represented Moldova with the song "Fight", which qualified from the semi-final and placed 10th in the final, scoring 109 points. The song was written by Elena Buga and composed by Alexandru Braşoveanu.
Before Eurovision
Internal selection
Prior to the 2007 Contest, TRM considered withdrawing from the competition due to lack of funds for participation. Nevertheless, TRM confirmed their intentions to participate at the Eurovision Song Contest 2007 prior to the contest application deadline on 15 November 2006. Artists and composers had the opportunity to submit their entries until 10 December 2006. At the conclusion of the submission deadline, 34 valid entries were received by the broadcaster, with "Can You" performed by 3BUCKS being disqualified. The list of submitted entries were released on 11 December 2009.
First Round
The selection of the Moldovan Eurovision entry took place in two rounds. In the first round on 13 December 2006, a jury panel evaluated the songs and were to shortlist 7-10 entries for a final voting round, however only three were selected due to the large margin of votes between the third-placed entry and the remaining 31 entries. Due to financial difficulties faced by the broadcaster, all three finalists all agreed to fund their own potential participation with TRM covering only the expense of the entrance fee. TRM would also cover their expenses only if the artist managed to reach the top 10 in the final of the 2007 contest.
Second Round
In the second round on 14 December 2006, "Fight" performed Natalia Barbu was selected by the jury panel as the Moldovan entrant at the Eurovision Song Contest 2007. Each jury member awarded 8, 10 and 12 points to their top three songs, with "Fight" receiving the top score from seven out of eight jury members. The jury consisted of Valentin Dânga, Ghenadie Ciobanu, Oleg Baraliuc, Inesa Stratulat, Vlad Costandoi, Natalia Brasnuev, Rodica Cioranica, Diana Stratulat and jury president Veronica Subotin.
Eurovision
Because Moldova placed 20th at the 2006 contest, Natalia was forced to compete in the Eurovision semi-final on 10 May 2007 performing 9th, following Switzerland and preceding the Netherlands. Moldova qualified to the final, placing 10th in the semi-final and scoring 91 points. In the final, Moldova performed 24th, following Armenia. Moldova placed 10th in the final, scoring 109 points. With changes to the format of the competition coming into effect for 2008, Moldova would have to compete in one of two semi-finals for qualification into the final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2008. As Moldova was not the winner of the 2007 Contest and was not a member of the Big Four, other results in the previous contest no longer pre-qualified nations to the final of the forthcoming contest.
