John Vallance

John Vallance was born in 1759, married Elizabeth Stephens in 1794 and died in 1833. He lived in Hove House, later renamed Hove Manor, in Hove Street in Hove. The house has been demolished and replaced by a large block of flats. Both Vallance Gardens and Vallance Road were built on the house's ground. John and his two brothers, James and Philip, owned the West Street Brewery in Brighton which had been established in 1769. They also ran a coal merchants business from the same location. John was a friend of the Prince of Wales and on one occasion the Prince stayed with him whilst work was being carried out at the Royal Pavilion and afterwards presented John with an engraved punch bowl.
John Vallance was an English amateur/professional cricketer who made 5 known appearances in first-class cricket matches from 1791 to 1792.

He was mainly associated with Sussex.
