Ivan Matteo Lombardo
Ivan Matteo Lombardo was an Italian politician.Biography
Lombardo was born in Milan in 1902. He was secretary of the Socialist Party from 17 April 1946 to 13 January 13 1947.
Subsequently, after the split of Palazzo Barberini, he initially remained in the Socialist Party, but just over a year later he was one of the founders of the Union of Socialists. On the occasion of the 1948 general election he founded with Giuseppe Saragat the Socialist Unity in opposition to the alliance of the Socialist Party with the Italian Communist Party.
He was secretary of the UdS from February 1948 to June 1949. After leaving the Socialist Party he was twice minister: Minister of industry and commerce from 23 May 1948 to 7 November 1949 and Minister of foreign trade from 27 January 1950 to 5 April 1951.
In 1963 he signed the manifesto for the new Republic together with Randolfo Pacciardi, Tomaso Smith, Alfredo Morea, Raffaele Cadorna and Mario Vinciguerra to create a presidential republic in Italy.
After the first legislature he was no longer elected MP.
He took part in the conference of the Parco dei Principi hotel, known as the "Conference on the revolutionary war"; organized from 3 to 5 May 1965 by the Alberto Pollio Institute for Military Studies in Rome at the Parco dei Principi Hotel, with an intervention entitled "Permanent communist war against the West".
The fund of Ivan Matteo Lombardo has been deposited in the Historical Archives of the European Union in Florence.
He died in Rome in 1980, at 78 years old. His body is buried in the Monumental Cemetery of Milan.Awards and honors
