As an amateur, Beres was a member of the Hungarian Olympic team of 1992 Barcelona in light heavyweight and won the light heavyweight bronze medal.Beres began his professional career in 1998 and has had limited success. Having fought mainly in Europe, he has lost to the likes of Tomasz Adamek, Silvio Branco, and Sebastian Kober.
