William George Cubitt
William George Cubitt, was a senior officer in the British Indian Army and a recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.Military career
Cubitt was 21 years old, and a lieutenant in the 13th Bengal Native Infantry, Bengal Army during the Indian Mutiny when the following deed took place for which he was awarded the VC.
Cubitt was also awarded the Distinguished Service Order for his service during the Third Anglo-Burmese War. He later achieved the rank of colonel.Cubitt died on 25 June 1903, aged 67, and was buried in St. Peter's Churchyard, Frimley, Surrey. He was the brother-in-law of Lieutenant General Sir James Hills-Johnes VC. Lewis Pugh Evans VC was a nephew.
