Voltage Pictures is an American film financing, production and worldwide sales agent company founded by Academy Award-winning producer Nicolas Chartier in 2005. Voltage has produced and represented over 180 motion pictures, from prestige dramas, epic scale adventures and comedies, to action, romances and genre films. Voltage backed the directorial debuts of Natalie Portman whose A Tale of Love and Darkness was an official selection at both the Cannes Film Festival and Toronto International Film Festival in 2015 and Joseph Gordon-Levitt's Don Jon starring Scarlett Johansson and Julianne Moore, which premiered at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival.

In 2010, Voltage produced and financed the critically acclaimed The Hurt Locker, directed by Kathryn Bigelow. Four years later Voltage produced and co-financed Dallas Buyers Club, directed by Jean-Marc Vallée and starring Matthew McConaughey, Jared Leto and Jennifer Garner. Recently produced by Voltage is the blockbuster comedy I Feel Pretty starring Amy Schumer, Michelle Williams, Emily Ratajkowski, and Naomi Campbell, which had a wide theatrical release via STX Entertainment in April 2018 and has since generated nearly $100m in worldwide box office. Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile starring Zac Efron, Lily Collins, Kaya Scodelario, Jim Parsons, and John Malkovich premiered at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival to great acclaim. After based on the internationally best-selling series of books by Anna Todd, debuted number one at the box office in eight international territories including Germany and Italy when released in April 2019. It is currently the highest performing independent film of 2019. The company is currently in post-production on Eve directed by Tate Taylor and starring Jessica Chastain, Colin Farrell, John Malkovich, Common, Geena Davis, and Joan Chen. Voltage was a co-financier and sales agent for the acclaimed Wind River, from Taylor Sheridan in his directorial debut, starring Jeremy Renner and Elizabeth Olsen, which premiered to rave reviews at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival which took over $44 million in worldwide box office. Chartier and Deckter were executive producers on the project. Other titles released by Voltage include Then Came You starring Maisie Williams, Asa Butterfield, and Nina Dobrev released in February 2019 by Shout! Studios, Welcome Home starring Aaron Paul and Emily Ratajkowski released by Vertical Entertainment in November 2018, Colossal starring Anne Hathaway released in April 2017 by Neon, A Family Man starring Gerard Butler, and Keep Watching, starring Bella Thorne which released by Screen Gems.
Sales titles
Recent titles on the Voltage sales slate include the Toronto International Film FestivalFIPRESCI Prize winner Skin from the Academy Award-winning director, Guy Nattiv, and starring Jamie Bell, Danielle Macdonald, and Vera Farmiga. The film was also an official selection in the Panorama section at the 2019 Berlin Film Festival and will be released in the US by A24. The short on which the film is based won the 2019 Academy Award for Best Live Action Short. All Eyez on Me from director Benny Bloom and starring Demetrius Shipp Jr., Danai Gurira and Kat Graham took $53 million in worldwide box office. Her Smell, starring Elisabeth Moss, Amber Heard, Cara Delevingne, and Dan Stevens was released in April 2019.
Television
The company's dynamic television division has delivered three seasons of “Leverage” starring Timothy Hutton which aired on TNT, two seasons of “True Justice” starring Steven Seagal which aired on 5USA, the upcoming 12 episode series “Age of The Living Dead / Age of the Undead” and most recently serving as executive producers on “Six” which is currently airing on The History Channel.
Licensing and merchandising
Voltage also operates an internal licensing and merchandising department that represents its own productions and third-party properties.
Awards
The Hurt Locker, starring Jeremy Renner took home six Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Screenplay in 2009. Dallas Buyers Club, directed by Jean-Marc Vallée and starring Matthew McConaughey, Jared Leto and Jennifer Garner. The film received three Academy Awards, including Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor, and two Golden Globes, again in the two acting categories.
Piracy
In 2018 it was discovered that Voltage was attempting to sue 55,000 Canadians for sharing their films online. Policy experts have called this move a case of Copyright trolling.
