Tsapatagh


Tsapatagh, is a resort-village in the Gegharkunik Province of Armenia, on the north-eastern shore of Lake Sevan.
Since 2017 it is part of Shoghakat municipality, which includes several other nearby villages too.
Postcode: 1611.

Population

In 2014 there were 379 residents according to local administration. In 2018 there was only one child who begun attending the local school.
Many of local residents were relocated to the village fleeing from Kushchi village of Dashkesan, as well as Baku and Ganja districts of Azerbaijan around 1988–1989. Quite a few of the houses are used only in summer by Yerevan residents.

Nature

Village is located in the vicinity of delta of Tandzut river.
In the surroundings of the village there is a 3312 hectare large sanctuary with unique relict juniper and oak open woodlands with typical fauna and flora.
Climate is somewhat milder than on western shores and fruit trees like apricots can be grown.

Historical sites

There is an about 3000 years old burial area 3 km east of the village.
In the south-east, about 1.5 km away there is a 14-18 century cemetery with khachkar tombstones.
