Tono Dam

Tono Dam is one of the largest agricultural dams in western Africa, located in Kassena-Nankana District of Upper East Region, northern Ghana. It is important in the livelihoods of local farmers and forms a lake with a notable bird habitat. The dam was built in the late 70's and early 80's by Taysec, a British engineering company. It is managed by the Irrigation Company of Upper Region. The 2 km long dam irrigates some 2,490 hectares of land.
