Tirora


Tirora is a Large Village and a municipal council in Gondia district of Maharashtra, India.

History

Ancient history is not known. Earlier, it was the part of Central Province of India. Some ancient sculptures are found but exact history could not be explored.

Administration

Tirora is a Tehsil Place in Gondia District. Tehsil office, Panchayat Samiti and Municipal Council are the administrative offices. Tirora was a Tehsil during the British period. Still, there are British period old buildings like old Kachahari. These old buildings are being used for a post office and a Sub-Registrar office and are still in good condition.

Demographics and industry

India census, Tirora had a population of 25,181. Males constitute 50% of the population and females 50%. Tirora has an average literacy rate of 75%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 83%, and female literacy is 67%. In Tirora, 12% of the population is under 6 years of age.
The main business of the town is rice mill, shops, business and grain trading. Grain Trading Centre is established which is known as Ganj Bazar. Weekly market day is on Sunday.
The railway station is 3;km from the town, situated on the Mumbai-Howrah Main Railway Line. Tirora is 30 km from Tumsar and Gondia. Tirora is also connected to National Highway 6 through Tirora Sakoli road which passes through Nagzira Forest.
Adani Power Maharashtra Limited, is 3 km away from Tirora on Tirora-Gondia state road. Coal is transported to Adani power, Ltd through a railway which is connected to Kachewani Railway Station. Water is being used from nearby weir constructed on Wainganga River. An 85.89% subsidiary of Adani Power Limited is implementing 3300 MW Thermal Power Station in Tirora./

Hospital

Sub District Hospital is provided by the government for the public. A few private nursing and general Hospitals are also available.

Education

Primary and higher secondary education in the science/art/commerce fields is available. Vocational education and technical courses are also available. One of CBSE School's name is Asim Saraf Central Academy which is located near Churdi provides quality education. One college having graduate courses in arts and commerce fields is there.

Culture

Major festivals celebrated in town are Diwali, Dashhara, Krishna Janmashtami, Pola, Ram Navmi. During Diwali Festival season, a fair is arranged which is a known as Mandai where folk dances are the major attractions. Dandar is a folk dance which is mostly arranged during Diwali festival.

Sports

Every year various sports activities are arranged. A karate championship is arranged every year.
