Thimiri


Thimiri is a village in Kannur district in the Indian state of Kerala. there is an ancient Shiva temple;Thimiri Sree Shiva Kshethra.

Demographics

India census, Thimiri had a population of 18,313 with 9,055 males and 9,258 females.

Thimiri Sree Shiva temple

This is the family temple of Kumazhi Kizhakkiniyil and Pulukkool Tharavadu. A very ancient SHIVA temple, it is believed that Lord SHIVA sat in meditation at Thimiri after Tripura Dahanam. It was renovated between 1943 & 1946 by Kumazhi Chattukutty Nambiar, whose nephew, the famed Ayurvedic physician, Vaidya Visharad Dr.K K C Nambiar, now resides with his family at the historic township of Barkur,the land of 365 temples.

Transportation

The national highway passes through Perumba junction. Goa and Mumbai can be accessed on the northern side and Cochin and Thiruvananthapuram can be accessed on the southern side. The road to the east of Iritty connects to Mysore and Bangalore. The nearest railway station is Payyanur on Mangalore-Palakkad line.
Trains are available to almost all parts of India subject to advance booking over the internet. There are airports at Kannur, Mangalore and Calicut. All of them are international airports but direct flights are available only to Middle Eastern countries.
