The Hotel Taschenbergpalais KempinskiDresden is a palace hotel Palace and belongs to the Kempinski Group Kempinski. It is located next to the Dresden castle Dresden Castle and in front of the Zwinger Zwinger. In direct proximity are the Semperoper, the Theaterplatz and the Hofkirche Dresden Dresden Cathedral. The facade of the Hotel Taschenbergpalais as well as the staircase on the inside of the building are designed historically whereas the interior in general is designed rather modern.
History
When the architect Johann Friedrich Karcher in 1705 had commenced to build the Taschenbergpalais he has followed the design of previous buildings. The Taschenbergpalais was the palace of Anna Constantia von Hoym Anna Constantia von Brockdorff, later Countess of Cosel and one of Augustus II's Augustus II the Strong mistresses. After Anna Constantia von Hoym got banned by Augustus II's in 1713 the Taschenbergpalais got arranged oriental and was named “Turkish Palais”. From 1718 to 1720 the Palais had been expanded several times for the crown prince family by Matthäus Daniel Pöppelmann and Raymond Leplat. The two fountains next to the entrance have been set up from 1747 to 1750 by Johann Christoph Knöffel. The fountains got restored and copied in 1990, the copies were set up next to the entrance whilst the rebuilt of the Taschenbergpalais. The last part to be built as expansion in 1843 was the south eastern part of the building. In 1934 the Taschenbergpalais got restored extensively and completely destroyed in 1945 during the bombing of Dresden on February 13th / 14th in World War IIBombing of Dresden in World War II. It has stayed a ruin for almost half a century and was rebuilt for 127.8 million euros from 1992 to 1995 with original models and remains. On March 31st 1995 the Hotel Taschenbergpalais Kempinski Dresden was opened up as first five-star Hotel rating hotel in Saxony.

The hotel commands 213 rooms and suites as well as the Palais Bistro, the Café Coffeehouse Vestibül which is located next to the historical staircase and the Karl MayBar. Furthermore the hotel contains a spa area with a pool, steam bath, infrared cabin, sauna, fitness centre and a beautyfarm as well as certain massage treatments.
Awards
Until 2009 the hotel was a member of The Leading Hotels of the World. In 1995 it was elected to be the best new hotel in Germany and in 2008 it was declared the fourth-best German hotel on the international Top 500 list of hotels. The Hotel Taschenbergpalais Kempinski Dresden reached place 2 behind the Ritz-Carlton The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company Berlin as 1st place at the ranking of the best business hotels in Germany by the financial magazine €uro.
