Tan Kiat How


Tan Kiat How is a Singaporean politician who has been elected into the 14th Parliament of Singapore with 2020 Singaporean general election. Prior to being elected, Tan was the chief executive officer of Infocomm Media Development Authority.

Early life and education

Tan Kiat How graduated from Hwa Chong. Tan subsequently graduated from University of Illinois with bachelor degrees in Computer Engineering and Economics. He also read master's degrees in Management at Stanford University and was a Mason Fellow at Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government.

Career

Tan Kiat How was a Deputy Secretary at the Ministry of Communications and Information. Tan was then appointed as the chief executive officer of IMDA from January 2017 to June 2020. Under Tan's tenure, IMDA awarded spectrum for the deployment of fifth-generation mobile networks. In May 2020, Tan established the SG Digital Office under IMDA to reach out to less digitally savvy segments in the community.

Politics

Tan Kiat How was fielded in 2020 Singaporean general election to contest in East Coast Group Representation Constituency on People's Action Party's ticket against Workers' Party. Tan's running mates were Heng Swee Keat, Maliki Osman, Jessica Tan, and Cheryl Chan. On 11 July 2020, Tan and team were declared to be elected to represent East Coast GRC in the 14th Parliament of Singapore, garnering 53.39% of the valid votes.
On 25 July 2020, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong officially announced Tan as the Minister of State in PMO and MND
