Tamer Seckin Tamer Seckin , MD, FACOG is a New York City-based gynecologist, laparoscopic surgeon, and endometriosis expert. He founded The Endometriosis Foundation of America with Padma Lakshmi in 2009.Early life and education Seckin was born in Ankara , Turkey before immigrating to the United States . He graduated from Tarsus American College in 1972 and received his medical degree from Hacettepe University School of Medicine in 1978. He completed his gynecological residency training in 1985 at the Children's Hospital of State University of New York at Buffalo .Career Seckin was the Chief of Gynecology at Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center . He is an Associate Attending Physician and Clinical Instructor at Lenox Hill Hospital and also has a private practice at Park East Gynecology & Surgery P.C. in New York City . In 2011, he acted as Advanced Laparoscopy Surgery Instructor & Co-Director of Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery for Women Fellowship Program at Lenox Hill Hospital. He is also Certified in Advanced Operative Laparoscopy by the Accreditation Council For Gynecologic Endoscopy and certified as a Console Surgeon by da Vinci Surgical System . He is a member of the American Medical Association , the American College of Obstetrics & Gynecology , the European Society of Reproductive Endocrinology, the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons, the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists , the American Fertility Society , the American Society for Reproductive Medicine , the Society of Reproductive Surgeons, the New York Gynecological Society, and the Society of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility . He was also the executive committee member of the International Society of Gynecological Endoscopy. Seckin received a Patient's Choice Award in 2008 as the best doctor in Obstetrics and Gynecology . In 2009, Seckin received the Silver Star Award from the Lenox Hill Hospital Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology for commitment to excellence in patient care. In 2011, he was elected by his peers to be included in list of "Best Doctors in America." In 2012, he received the Super Doctor award as an "Outstanding Practicing Doctor" in New York and listed in the New York Times Magazine . In 2012, he received the United States Ellis Island Medal of Honor . Dr. Seckin is a member of the Board of Directors of The American Turkish Society . In March 2016, Seckin released The Doctor Will See You Now: Recognizing and Treating Endometriosis for those affected by endometriosis.Endometriosis Foundation of America In 2006, Seckin founded the Endometriosis Foundation of America with patients including Padma Lakshmi. The EFA is a nonprofit organization , which increases awareness, education, research, and legislative advocacy against the disease. EFA was established to correct misdiagnoses and raise public awareness through programs in New York City high schools that educate school nurses, students, and teachers about endometriosis. Starting in 2009, Dr. Tamer Seckin organized yearly conferences on advancing the science and surgery of endometriosis. The Endometriosis Foundation of America hosts an annual fundraiser, The Blossom Ball, that spreads awareness of the disease. Celebrities that have attended the Blossom Ball include Susan Sarandon , Chelsea Handler , Amy Poehler , Dita Von Teese and Whoopi Goldberg . Through the EFA, he co-founded the ROSE Project at the New York-based Feinstein Institute for Medical Research .
