T. E. Jessop


Thomas Edmund Jessop, was a British academic best known for his work on George Berkeley.
He was born in Hull and educated at the University of Leeds, where he received his BA and MA. He gained his BLitt from Oriel College, Oxford. From 1925 to 1928 he was an assistant lecturer at the University of Glasgow. Jessop was the first member of Hull University's philosophy department and the first Ferens Professor of Philosophy. In 1946 he was joined at the department by 'ordinary language' philosopher Alan R. White who succeeded Jessop to the Ferens Chair in 1961.
His book The Treaty of Versailles: Was it Just? concluded that the 1919 peace treaty was overall a just one.
