History

Summitville was once a busy transportation hub. The name Summitville comes from the fact that the Delaware and Hudson Canal summit lies within the town of Summitville. Water runs downhill in both directions towards the Hudson River and the Delaware River.
Later the New York, Ontario and Western Railway had a major station in Summitville. The O&W had a junction off their main line that led to branch lines heading to Kingston, New York to the northeast and Port Jervis, New York to the southwest.
