Summerseat


Summerseat is a village in the Ramsbottom district of the Metropolitan Borough of Bury, Greater Manchester, England.

History

part of Lancashire, the village lies in the Irwell Valley, on the course of the River Irwell to the north of Bury and along the route of the M66 motorway.
A steam railway station on the East Lancashire steam railway is situated in the village. There is a local Costcutter store in the village. The village has two public houses in Summerseat, the Footballer's and the Hamer's Arms.
The 200-year-old, Grade II listed, Joshua Hoyles cotton mill, on the banks of the Irwell was redeveloped into residential apartments in the 1980s. The Waterside Inn, formerly a creche built on Kay Bridge for the adjacent mill was intended to be redeveloped as a residential site but collapsed during a storm on 26 December 2015.
