Stephen Walsh (writer)
Stephen Walsh is an English writer and scholar. He was born in Chipping Norton in 1942 and educated at Kingston Grammar School, St Paul’s School and Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge. He has worked as a music critic for The Times, The Daily Telegraph and The Observer. Since 1976, he has taught music at Cardiff University. As a writer, he has written biographies of twentieth century figures such as Debussy, Stravinsky and Mussorgsky.
His biography of Stravinsky won an award from the Royal Philharmonic Society, but he was subsequently accused of various malpractices by Robert Craft, the American conductor and a close friend of Stravinsky. His biography of Mussorgsky was shortlisted for the 2014 Pushkin House Book Award.
