Stephen Taber
Stephen Taber was a United States Congress Representative from New York from 1865 to 1869.
He was the son of Thomas Taber II; born in Dover, New York, March 7, 1821; completed preparatory studies; moved to Queens, New York and engaged in agricultural pursuits; member of the New York State Assembly in 1860 and 1861; elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-ninth and Fortieth Congresses ; assisted in organizing the Long Island North Shore Transportation Co. in 1861 and served as its president for several years; director of the Long Island Rail Road Co.; became the first president of the Roslyn Savings Bank in 1876 and served in this capacity for a number of years; died in New York City on April 23, 1886; interment in Roslyn Cemetery, Roslyn, Long Island, N.Y.
