Solly Malatsi


Mmoba Solomon "Solly" Malatsi is a South African politician from Limpopo who is the Spokesperson of the Democratic Alliance, after having been appointed in June 2018. He is the Parliamentary Counsellor to the DA Parliamentary Leader. He has been serving as a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa since May 2014. Within the Official Opposition Shadow Cabinet, he has served as the Shadow Minister of Sport and Recreation, the Shadow Minister of Human Settlements and the Shadow Minister in the Presidency.

Biography

Malatsi was born in Ga-Dikgale in the former Transvaal Province. He matriculated from Phiri Kolobe High School and went on to obtain a Bachelor of Administration degree from the University of Limpopo, majoring in Public Administration and Development Studies. He also achieved an Honours Degree in Political Studies while studying at the University of the Witwatersrand. Malatsi was part of the DA's Young Leaders Programme.
Malatsi became a parliamentary researcher for the DA in 2008. He worked as a spokesperson for Western Cape Provincial Minister of Transport and Public Works, Robin Carlisle, from 2009 to 2011. Beteween 2011 and 2014, he served as the spokesperson for Cape Town Mayor Patricia de Lille. In May 2014, he became an MP for the DA and was named Shadow Minister of Sport and Recreation. He was later appointed Shadow Minister of Human Settlements.
In June 2018, Malatsi became the national spokesperson for the DA. He was re-elected to a second term in May 2019. He became the party's Shadow Minister in the Presidency in June 2019. In October 2019, he was appointed the parliamentary counsellor to newly elected DA parliamentary leader John Steenhuisen.
