Slovenia in the Eurovision Song Contest 1998


Slovenia was represented by Vili Resnik in the Eurovision Song Contest 1998 with the song "Naj bogovi slišijo".

Before Eurovision

EMA 1998

EMA 1998 was the 4th edition of the Slovenian national final format Evrovizijska Melodija . The competition was used by RTV Slovenija to select Slovenia's entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 1998.

Competing entries

43 entries were received by RTV Slovenija during a submission period. An expert committee consisting of Miša Molk, Andrej Karoli and Mojmir Sepe selected fourteen artists and songs for the competition from the received submissions.

Final

EMA 1998 took place on 28 February 1998 at the RTV Slovenija studios in Ljubljana, hosted by Mojca Mavec. A public vote selected "Naj bogovi slišijo" performed by Vili Resnik as the winner.

At Eurovision

Vili Resnik previously came equal 10th in the 1990 Yugoslav Final as lead singer of 'Pop Design', 5th in the 1996 Slovene Final and 6th in 1997. At the ESC he came 18th, where one of his backing singers was Karmen Stavec who would go on to represent Slovenia in ESC 2003. His pianist was Urša Vlasic who came 13th in the 1988 Yugoslav Final and equal 15th in 1990. Darja Svajger represented Slovenia in 1995, while Regina did the same in 1996. Miran Rudan was a backing singer for Italy in the 1990 ESC.
