the north
of the
Shackleton Range
. First seen from the
air
and mapped by the
Commonwealth Trans-Antarctic Expedition
in
1956
. Named by the
CTAE
for
RAF
Marshal
Sir John Slessor
,
chairman
of the
expedition
committee
.
