Siobhan Haughey


Siobhán Bernadette Haughey is a Hong Kong competitive swimmer.

Personal life

Haughey was born in Hong Kong in 1997 to an Irish father, Darach, and a Hong Konger mother, Canjo. She attended St. Paul's Primary Catholic School and St. Paul's Secondary School in Hong Kong. She graduated from University of Michigan in the United States. Siobhan Haughey is also the grandniece of former Taoiseach Charles Haughey.

Swimming career

Haughey won a gold medal in the 100 metre freestyle at the World Junior Championships in 2013. In 2016, she was named Swimmer of the Championships at the Big 10 championships and helped lead the University of Michigan to claim the team title, the first time that university had done so since 2004.
She qualified for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, and was selected to represent Hong Kong in the women's 200 metre freestyle and 200 metre individual medley. Haughey won her heat in the 200 metre freestyle at the Olympics.
She has qualified to represent Hong Kong at the 2020 Summer Olympics.
