Simulated presence therapy

Simulated presence therapy is an emotion-oriented non-pharmacological intervention for people with dementia. It is based in psychological attachment theories and is normally carried out playing a recording with voices of the closest relatives of the patient. There are preliminary evidences indicating that SPT may reduce anxiety and challenging behaviors.
A 2020 Cochrane review that examined three studies involving 144 participants and the effects of simulated presence therapy was unable to draw any conclusions about its efficacy and called for further well designed research.
