Sean Schemmel
Sean Christian Schemmel is an American voice actor, anime dubber, musician, and writer who has worked for Funimation, OkraTron 5000, NYAV Post, 4K Media Inc., Central Park Media, and DuArt Film and Video. He has provided voices for English adaptations of Japanese anime, as well as various other animated series and video games. His most notable voice role has been the adult version of Goku in the Funimation dub of the Dragon Ball franchise.
Early life
Sean was born on his mother's 20th birthday. He has an older brother and two younger sisters. His parents were later divorced. The family moved to Odessa, Texas when Sean was 12. Sean was adopted by his stepfather Franz Schemmel, a Lutheran minister. His maternal grandfather was a John Deere factory worker. In 1985, he moved to Fort Worth, Texas.Schemmel went to University of North Texas where he studied music and specialized in playing the French Horn. Schemmel is proficient on the French horn having won many awards for his performance.
Career
Schemmel first began voicing Goku for Funimation in 1999, replacing Peter Kelamis from the previous Ocean Studios cast. He has since been the most consistent English voice actor for the main protagonist of the Dragon Ball franchise; having voiced the older teen and adult incarnations of Goku in every anime series produced so far and nearly all Dragon Ball animated movies and video games, as well as the supporting character King Kai. In addition to his voice acting career, Schemmel was also an ADR Director and scriptwriter for NYAV Post, where he had directed and adapted for English dubs of several Japanese anime series. In the field of narration, he has won two awards for his audiobook recordings.Filmography
