His father Patrick was the ninth overall pick in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft, selected by Whalers GM Eddie Johnston. He would score 101 goals in 634 career NHL games with Hartford, Chicago, Tampa Bay and Montreal from 1991–2002. His godfather is former Penguins goalie Jocelyn Thibault, who currently serves as the General Manager of the Sherbrooke Phoenix.International
