Salvatore Siino
Salvatore Siino was an Italian prelate of the Catholic Church who worked in the diplomatic service of the Holy See. He became an archbishop in 1953 and served as Apostolic Nuncio in the Dominican Republic and the Philippines.Biography
Salvatore Siino was born on 5 October 1904 in Capaci, Italy. He was ordained a priest of the Archdiocese of Monreale on 5 April 1930.
His early assignments in the diplomatic service
On 27 October 1953, Pope Pius XII appointed him titular archbishop of Perge and Apostolic Nuncio to the Dominican Republic. He received his episcopal consecration on 29 November 1953 from Cardinal Clemente Micara. He aligned himself with the authoritarian regime there, becoming "one of Trujillo's most active flatterers and effusive supporters". His reassignment in 1959 signaled a shift in the Church's politics in Latin America.
On 14 March 1959, Pope John XXIII named him Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines.
He died in Rome of a heart attack on 8 October 1963 at the age of 59 while waiting with a group of diplomats for a meeting with Pope Paul VI.
