The school was constructed in 1957 and opened in September 1958. It is an English and French Immersion Secondary School. As of 2014-2015, enrolment at the school was 999.

Extracurricular activities
Richview's sports teams are called the Saints and the school colours are Scarlet and Gold. School teams compete in archery, badminton, baseball, basketball, cheerleading, cross country, rugby, curling, golf, football, ice hockey, curling, skiing, soccer, swimming, tennis, track & field, archery and volleyball. The Senior Football team won the Metro Bowl in 1991-92, 2001-02 and 2017-18. The Richview Ski team is one of the only school teams to have been to the Ontario finals, 18 years in a row. In 2010, the boys level 1 skiers placed 7th in all of Ontario. In 2011, the girls level 1 team placed first in Toronto for slalom, Giant slalom, and combined.. During the 2008 season, the baseball team won the Toronto City Championship, the first in school history. The Richview baseball team also won the City of Toronto championship in 2010, 2011, 2013, and 2016. The team was the TDSB representative at the OFSAA Baseball Championships from 2011-2016. Major League Baseball player Joey Votto.played for Richview Richview won the 1985 OFSAA Boys Track and Field Championship in Etobicoke, Ontario. Students may also participate in: Intermediate, or Senior Band, Stage Band, Junior Orchestra/Symphony, Senior Strings, Choir, Charity Week Activities, Fashion Show, Volleyball, Tennis, Swimming, Soccer, Cross Country, Track & Field, Athletic Council, Parent Council as well as various activities in the dramatic arts such as short plays, the SEARS Drama Festival Production and the Improv Team.
Richview Environment Club
The Richview Environment Club revived Richview's inner courtyard, which was completely overgrown, and transformed it into a thriving eco-system where Richview students can sit and enjoy nature. The Environment Club also has funded other groups in the school; in 2009-2010 they raised $462.00, half of which went to help purchase plants to decorate the outside of the school, and the other half to help purchase a tree that was dedicated to a Richview teacher. The Richview Environment Club in 2009-2010 participated in a park clean up, and worked with St. George golf course to teach grades 4 to 6 about eco-systems and the importance of environmental sustainability. The Richview Environment club achieved Bronze Eco-School status in 2008-2009, and Silver Eco-School status in 2009-2010.
Student Newspaper
The Richview Voice was launched as an online newspaper in 2016. Former newspapers have been the Richview Herald launched in 2011, the Richview Epiphany launched in the 2008-2009 school year, and the R C Eye, from the late 1960s.
