Richard Snelgrove


Richard Snelgrove is an American politician and small business owner from Utah. He is an at-large member and the chair of the Salt Lake County Council, representing 1.1 million residents. He was elected in 2010 and was re-elected in 2016.

Political career

Snelgrove served as an Election Observer to Latin America for the State Department. He was a member of the National Small Business Advisory Council during the George H.W. Bush Administration. He has been elected three times as a member of the United States Electoral College, including in 2016. He served as district director for Utah U.S. Congressman Merrill Cook. He has chaired the Salt Lake County Republican Party and the Utah Republican Party. He has been a Republican national delegate multiple times.
Snelgrove was elected in November 2010 to the six-year at-large seat on the County Council with 55 percent of the vote.
He ran unsuccessfully for Salt Lake County Mayor in 2012.
Snelgrove served as Salt Lake County Council chair in 2015. Previously he served as vice chair and chair pro-tem. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Unified Fire Authority, which provides fire and paramedic services to townships and several cities. He is on the Clark Planetarium Board of Directors, the Municipal Services District Board of Trustees, and the County Redevelopment Agency Board of Trustees.
Ran for a second six-year term in the November 2016 election. He faced no in-party opposition.
