Ramesh Mehta (physician)
Ramesh Mehta is an Indian pediatrician, founder of the British Association of Physicians of Indian Origin and is secretary general of the Global Association of Physicians of Indian origin.
Mehta was born on 19 September 1947 in a village in central India. At the age of seven, he decided to become a doctor. Prior to immigrating to the United Kingdom in 1981, he undertook his undergraduate and postgraduate medical training in pediatrics at one of the India's medical schools. After immigration and additional training in the UK, he became a consultant pediatrician at Bedford Hospital in 1993. In 1996 he became its clinical director and supported the design of the mother and baby unit and pediatric rheumatology services, prior to joining as honorary consultant in pediatric rheumatology at Great Ormond Street Hospital. He also was a tutor at the University of Cambridge and at the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health of which he was its council member and a negotiator between Indian Academy of Pediatrics and RCPCH. In 2015, his organization had won the case against Royal College of General Practitioners and said that he will pursue further actions if the discrimination and black and minority ethics will continue to be violated at the RCGP.
