crystals
. It can
be prepared

adding
a
hot
solution
of phthalimide in
ethanol
to a solution of
potassium hydroxide
in ethanol; the
desired
product
precipitates
.
This
compound
is a
commercially
available
reagent
used in the
Gabriel synthesis
of
amines
.
