Patrick J. Deneen is an American political theorist who is Professor of Political Science and holds the David A. Potenziani Memorial College Chair of Constitutional Studies at the University of Notre Dame.Life and career
Born in 1964, Deneen was educated at Rutgers University, earning a B.A. in English Literature and a Ph.D. in Political Science. He taught at Princeton University as an assistant professor. Deneen joined the faculty at Georgetown University in 2005 and was the Tsakopoulos-Kounalakis Associate Professor of Government until 2012. He began his current position at Notre Dame in 2012.. He is the author of four books, including Why Liberalism Failed, which has been translated into over a dozen languages.
In November 2019, Deneen met publicly with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and praised the Hungarian government's social policies.
