Patricia Bragg is an American businesswoman, author, and health consultant. She serves as the nominal head of Bragg Live Food Products and Books, and Chairperson of the Bragg Health Institute.
Early years
Patricia Bragg was born as Patricia Pendleton in Oakland, California on April 29, 1929, daughter of Harry Clay Pendleton, a building contractor, and Nettie Deacon Pendleton. Bragg was raised in Piedmont, California where she attended both grammar school and high school. She graduated from Mary Wallace School, a private Piedmont high school for girls, in June 1947. Bragg's parents were divorced on October 1, 1938, after a separation of several years. The most recent released Federal Census shows Patricia Pendleton, at age 10, residing with her mother, Nettie, and two brothers on Pala Avenue in Piedmont, Alameda County, California. After finishing high school, she attended the University of California, Berkeley for two years, but did not graduate. In an interview published in the Santa Barbara News-Press on March 8, 2011, Bragg claimed she graduated from that institution with a "bachelor's degree in biochemistry". In the same interview, Bragg stated that her mother died at age 45 in an automobile accident. Contradicting the Oakland Tribune obituary of July 30, 1964, which read in part: "Mrs. Pendleton, whose death followed a brief illness, is survived by a daughter, Patricia Pendleton Bragg, of Hollywood; and two sons, Harry C. Pendleton, Jr., of Oakland, and Herbert Coward Deacon ". Her mother's death certificate also documents her cause of death as "Cerebral Metastasis due to Carcinoma L Lung" on July 29, 1964, at age 65. On April 19, 1952, Patricia Pendleton and Robert E. Bragg married at the First Presbyterian Church in Phoenix, Arizona. The marriage did not last long and they divorced in 1957, in Los Angeles County, California. Prior to and following their divorce proceedings, Bragg assisted her former father-in-law, Paul C. Bragg, with his health crusades. She later appeared on his Health & HappinessTV show, which ran from September 1959 to an unknown date on Channel 9, KHJ-TV, in Los Angeles, CA. She is attributed as a co-author of many of the later Bragg health books. There is no known record of Patricia Bragg earning her PhD, contrary to the labels on most of Bragg's products.
Second marriage
On March 31, 1976, Patricia Bragg married James Cameron Gilroy in Tujunga, California. On the Application for Marriage License, she stated her father's name was Paul C. Bragg, her mother's maiden name was Nettie Coward, her birth date was April 29, 1946, her age was 30, and indicated that this was her first marriage. Bragg and Gilroy divorced five months later, and Gilroy died the following July 1, 1977, at age 22 under unknown circumstances. His death certificate, informed by information from his mother, gave his last occupation as "Sales Mgr...Live Foods...Health Vitamins".
Bragg Corporation
Bragg products include salad dressings, seasonings, health books, apple cider vinegar, olive oil, and, their most well-known item, liquid aminos. The products are available in stores and on their website. On June 25, 2019, "Food Business News" reported that an "investment group" had acquired Bragg Live Food Products Company.
