Oleksandr Popov
Oleksandr Pavlovych Popov , is a Ukrainian politician. In 2010 to 2013, he was a head of the Kiev City State Administration.
Traditionally, the elected mayor of Kiev also automatically became chair of Kiev City Council and head of the city's state administration. However, following dispute between the mayor and the president in 2010, President Viktor Yanukovych asked the parliament to give him the power to appoint the head of the state administration. Parliament acquiesced, and mayor Leonid Chernovetskyi was dismissed from the state administration and replaced with presidential appointee Popov. Though Chernovetskyi remained the mayor, effective power then started to rests with the appointee Popov, not mayor Chernovetskyi. Kiev then did not have an elected mayor until mayor Vitali Klitschko was sworn in on 5 June 2014.
On 14 December 2013 President Viktor Yanukovych suspended Popov. The same day the General Prosecutor of Ukraine's Office handed "a notification on suspicion of abuse of power when ordering the Euromaidan police actions of 30 November 2013" out to Popov and Anatoliy Holubchenko was appointed as acting Head of Kyiv City Administration.
The trial against Popov is ongoing since late 2013. In it Popov denies any wrongdoing. Since the trial he has started an export company aimed at EU markets.
In the 2019 Ukrainian parliamentary election Popov is a self-nominated candidate in Kiev's electoral district 212.
