History

Originally the residents of New Theed were living in the area called Theed or Tir, but during the early 1940s, they were forcibly relocated by the Maharaja Hari Singh to this place now called New Theed. At that time, New Theed lacked roads, electricity, transportation facilities, and proper arrangement of drinking water. Most residents of Old Theed took up residence in the New Theed location, while some others settled at Zithyar Nishat, Brein, Guptaganga, Khunmoh and Pampore.
Those who settled at New Theed grew the new settlement into a township. The town now hosts orchards and agricultural lands growing rice, mustard and vegetables.
