Nesrin Hanım


Nesrin Hanım was the eleventh wife of Sultan Abdulmejid I of the Ottoman Empire.

Early life

Nesrin Hanım was born in 1826 in Poti, Georgia. Born as Adile Asemiani, she was a member of Georgian noble family, Asemiani. Her father was Manuçar Bey Asemiani and her mother was Mahra Hanım. She had a brother named Hasan Bey.
She had been brought to Istanbul at a young age, where her father entrusted her to the imperial harem. Here her name according to the custom of the Ottoman court was changed to Nesrin.

Marriage

Nesrin married Abdulmejid in 1846. She was given the title of "Third Fortunate". The same year, she gave birth to her first child, a son Şehzade Mehmed Ziyaeddin. The prince died young. On 26 August 1848, she gave birth to her second child, a daughter, Behice Sultan in the Old Çırağan Palace.
In 1850, she was hoisted to the title of "Second Fortunate". The same year she gave birth to twins, Şehzade Mehmed Nizameddin and Şehzade Mehmed Bahaeddin. Abdulmejid was on a trip in Anatolia, and received the news of their birth through his mother, Bezmiâlem Sultan. Both the princes died young.

Death

Nesrin Hanım died on 2 January 1853, and was buried in New Mosque, Istanbul.
