History

• 1960s – Cardiology and Cardiothoracic services are only available in missionary hospitals in Malaysia
• 1970s – Cardiology and Cardiothoracic services available in University Hospital
• 1981 – Establishment of Cardiology Department in General Hospital Kuala Lumpur
• 1982 – Establishment of Cardiothoracic Surgery Department in General Hospital Kuala Lumpur
• 1992 – Establishment of Institut Jantung Negara, Malaysia's premier heart centre and the first medical services corporatised in the country
• 2005 – Institut Jantung Negara was placed under IJN Holdings Sdn Bhd
• IJN is a limited company with 99.99% equity ownership by the Malaysian Government under the Minister of Finance Incorporated
