Mubi (streaming service)
MUBI is a distributor, producer and subscription-based streaming OTT service which offers online streaming of a curated selection of films. MUBI also houses a film database and an online magazine known as .
MUBI has an ever-changing collection of films. Every day MUBI adds a new film, which stays on the service for 30 days.
MUBI is available on the web, Roku devices and PlayStation, Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, LG and Samsung Smart TVs, as well as on mobile devices including iPhone, iPad and Android. MUBI has offices in London, New York, Berlin, Vienna, and Melbourne.
History
Originally called The Auteurs, MUBI was founded in 2007 by Turkish-born entrepreneur Efe Çakarel as a social network for cinephiles, with an interface specifically geared towards aesthetic design and simplicity. Çakarel says that he began work on the business model for MUBI after being unable to watch In the Mood for Love online while in a café in Tokyo. In 2010, the company adopted the new name MUBI.MUBI is a curated VOD platform, which shows a continually rotating line-up of 30 films at once. In 2020, MUBI launched LIBRARY, a new section that allows members to stream films that have previously been selected by its curators.
MUBI is also a distributor and producer. Co-productions include Port Authority, , , and Maniac Cop.
