Mihai Godea


Mihai Godea is a Moldovan politician, the President of the Democratic Action Party since 6 November 2011.

Biography

After finishing his studies in politics an history, Godea started an activist career in the NGO sector. In 1999 he was appointed as a program coordinator at “CONTACT” National Assistance and Information Center for NGOs in Moldova. Later in 2005, he became the Executive Director of the organization. Additionally, he was engaged in civic activities by holding the secretary position of the Coalition for Rural Economic Development since 2003.
In the upcoming years he became interested in politics. His first contribution to Moldovan political life was his collaboration with Democratic Party of Moldova in 2002. Nevertheless, alongside Alexandru Tanase and Vladimir Filat he founds the Liberal Democratic Action Party in 2007. He conceives the position of the Vice-President of the party. In the period between 2009 and 2011, he was the member of Moldovan Parliament of the XVIIth, XVIIIth and XIXth Legislatures. In the Parliament of Moldova, Godea was the leader of the PLDM parliamentary fraction. In 2011, he leaves the PLDM political party in order to dismay the return of the Communist Party. For this reason, he runs for the Chisinau's Mayor Office, Moldova's capital. Although, Godea didn't win the elections, he contributed substantially to the victory of another pro-European democrat, Dorin Chirtoaca, against the communist candidate,Igor Dodon.
On 6 November 2011, Godea, alongside Viorel Chivriga, Natalia Ciobanu and Corneliu Gurin, founded the Democratic Action Party, which is led by him.
