Mary Laurene Browne


Mary Laurene Browne is a Liberian catholic sister, an educator and president of Stella Maris Polytechnic University in Monrovia. She is also the author of many textbooks and other publications.
Mary Laurene Browne was born in Gadetarbo Chiefdom, Maryland County to Mr. and Mrs. David A. T. Browne and Elizabeth Toe. She developed the nickname "Little Mary" by her parents who predeceased her. Her parents divorced when she was six years old.
Browne first attended the African Methodist Episcopal Parish Day School, and later enrolled at Our Lady of Fatima High school in Maryland County. After graduating from high school, she traveled to the United States, where she attended Alvernia University. Upon the completion of her college education at Alvernia, she entered the Bernadine Franciscan Sisters Convert in Reading, Pennsylvania.
