Maromaku


Maromaku is a locality in the Northland Region of the North Island of New Zealand. State Highway 1 passes just to the east. Kawakawa is north, and Towai is southeast.

Demographics

The statistical area of Maromaku, which at 238 square kilometres is much larger than this locality, had a population of 774 at the 2018 New Zealand census, an increase of 108 people since the 2013 census, and an increase of 60 people since the 2006 census. There were 249 households. There were 375 males and 399 females, giving a sex ratio of 0.94 males per female. Of the total population, 216 people were aged up to 15 years, 123 were 15 to 29, 333 were 30 to 64, and 105 were 65 or older. Figures may not add up to the total due to rounding.
Ethnicities were 74.0% European/Pākehā, 45.7% Māori, 4.3% Pacific peoples, 2.3% Asian, and 3.5% other ethnicities. People may identify with more than one ethnicity.
The percentage of people born overseas was 7.8, compared with 27.1% nationally.
Although some people objected to giving their religion, 46.5% had no religion, 37.6% were Christian, and 5.4% had other religions.
Of those at least 15 years old, 54 people had a bachelor or higher degree, and 132 people had no formal qualifications. The median income was $26,300. The employment status of those at least 15 was that 288 people were employed full-time, 81 were part-time, and 36 were unemployed.

Education

Maromaku School is a coeducational primary school with a roll of students as of Towai Primary School closed in January 2005, with students moving to Maromaku School.
