Università degli studi Guglielmo Marconi, internationally referred to as Guglielmo Marconi University, is an online and research University based in Rome, Italy, and the first Italian Open University recognized by the Ministerial Decree of March 1, 2004.

About

Guglielmo Marconi University was originally promoted by the Tertium Foundation, a consortium formed by "Cassa di Risparmio di Roma", the InterUniversity consortium FOR.COM “Formazione per la Comunicazione”, WIND Telecomunicazioni, "Cassa di Risparmio di Bologna" and CARISBO, NTA Srl, in Rome, Italy.
The name of the atheneum originates from Guglielmo Marconi, the inventor of long-distance radio transmission, and is one of Italy's oldest telematic institution. Its wide range of lectures, symposiums, workshops and research projects, explore the use of technological advancements in education, providing interdisciplinary knowledge, skills and competences, with a particular emphasis on the global perspective, on the 4th industrial revolution professionals and on contemporary culture. The educational approach combines "distance learning" methodologies with interpersonal training activities.
The University was accredited by National, European and extra European institutions, including:
Italy: MIUR
Greece: On May 5, 2010, D.O.A.T.A.P accredited USGM, recognizing bachelor's degrees in Modern Languages and Literature, Psychology, and Education Science, including several masters such as: Educational Leadership, Management and Emerging Technologies, MBA, Interior Design, Human Resources Management etc.
USA: On April 17, 2015, USGM became the first and only Italian university institutionally accredited in the United States. The Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools, a national accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation, has certified the high quality and excellence of Marconi's academic programs and institutional organization.

Campus

USGM's main campuses are based in Rome, and are located around Prati and Vatican neighborhoods. The central administrative offices, the studios, the academic departments and the majority of the university facilities are situated on the main campus.

The university courses are delivered either fully online or in blended format, providing students with access to both the on-campus library and to the library electronic database. This allows students to access studying material and resources at any given time and location.

Governance
Professor Alessandra Briganti is the rector of Guglielmo Marconi University. Other titles include:

Part of the Association for the quality of training, of the ISICT of the University of Genoa.
Italian representative at the European Training Foundation Managing Board, appointed by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Currently, USGM counts more than 16.000 students enrolled in graduate and postgraduate programs, 300 faculty members and a team of 200 advising experts.

Academics

Guglielmo Marconi University is an online university that distinguishes itself for the operational blended format that implements both online and traditional academic programs. This format provides students a valuable experience both online and offline, by preserving face-to-face interactions with professors, seminars and lessons within the athenaeum, and by granting access to intranet and institutional resources.
Since 1999 Italian Universities abided to the ‘Bologna Process’, launched with the Bologna Declaration of 1999 and defined by the European Higher Education Area.

Master's degrees
Students who intend to apply to a master's degree program are required to have a bachelor's degree. Generally, a Master program lasts 1,500 hours, including lectures, seminars, projects and examinations.
The final examination assesses technical, scientific and professional comprehension, and includes a final project and the dissertation.

Partners and Agreements
Guglielmo Marconi University has cooperation agreements with European, American, African, Middle Eastern, and central and South American institutions, in order to regulate and develop transactional mobility, bilateral and multilateral partnerships, group research activities and study programs releasing a dual or joint degree. In concordance with the European and International Priorities and Goals outlines, Guglielmo Marconi University's mission is to provide groundbreaking investigations in all research fields. The U-Multi, one of the highest-ranking global universities, ranked GMU 25th in international joint publications.
