North Island
. It
flows
generally westwards from its
sources
in
hills
northwest
of
Whangarei
,
meeting
the
Wairua River
northwest of
Maungatapere
.
At the
annual
New
Zealand River
Awards
in
2014
, it was
awarded
"Most
Improved
."
