De Beer was born in the Netherlands. She earned a degree in directing from the Amsterdam University of the Arts, graduating in 2009.Career
De Beer is the artistic director of Operafront. She has directed at the Theater an der Wien, the Münchener Biennale, the Holland Festival, the Neuköllner Oper, Opera Leipzig, the Aalto Musiktheater Essen, the Royal Danish Theatre in Copenhagen, and Israeli Opera.
She has won the Ton Lutz Award for most talented director and best newcomer director at the International Opera Awards in 2015.
