Local Government Act 1925
The Local Government Act, 1925 was enacted by the Oireachtas of the Irish Free State on 26 March 1925. Most of the provisions of the Act came into operation on 1 October 1925.
The Act abolished rural district councils, passing their powers to the county councils. The Irish Free State had inherited the local authorities created by United Kingdom legislation including the Local Government Act 1898 and Local Government Act 1919. The Act was the first Irish legislation with relation to the Local government. Elections were held on 23 June 1925.
