Little Dutch (Deutsch) Church


Little Dutch Church is the second oldest building in Halifax, Nova Scotia after St. Paul's and was built for the Foreign Protestants.

History

It was adapted as a church in 1756 and consecrated in 1760. Established by Otto William Schwartz, it is the oldest known surviving church in Canada associated with the German-Canadian community. It was an official chapel of St. Paul's Church. Eventually, the congregation migrated to St. George's Church, Halifax, Nova Scotia. Robert Fitzgerald Uniacke is buried in the cemetery and Major Leonard Lockman is buried beneath the Church where his monument remains.
