Lưu Hữu Phước
Lưu Hữu Phước was a Vietnamese composer, a member of the National Assembly, and Chairman of the Committee of Culture and Education of the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.Career
He was originally a medical student, the composing member of a trio with lyricists Mai Văn Bộ, later ambassador, and Nguyễn Thà nh Nguyên, later a dentist in California, composing patriotic songs in 1943. He was a posthumous recipient of the Hồ Chà Minh Prize in 1996. His "Thanh niên hà nh khúc" was the base of the 1948–1975 South Vietnamese national anthem, though this was before he became a Communist.
After becoming a Communist, LÆ°u wrote both the lyrics and composed the music to "Liberate the South" in 1969.Works
