Kendal, Jamaica


Kendal is a small town in the centre of Jamaica, located in Manchester Parish, known for being the site of Jamaica's deadliest rail accident.

History

On 1 September 1957, a train carrying churchgoers from the Kingston-based St Anne's Catholic Church derailed at Kendal, killing some 179 people and injuring hundreds. It was the second-deadliest rail accident ever at the time and remains the deadliest in Jamaican history.
