Kedar Pandey


Kedar Pandey was an Indian freedom fighter and Indian National Congress politician, who remained the Chief Minister of Bihar from March 1972 to 2 July 1973, and Minister of Railways in the Union Cabinet from 12 November 1980 to 14 January 1982 as a part of the Government of India.

Quit India Movement

Pandey was a part of the famous Young Turks of Bihar Congress during the independence movement along with Bindeshwari Dubey,
Bhagwat Jha Azad, Chandrashekhar Singh, Satyendra Narayan Sinha, Abdul Ghafoor all future chief ministers and Sitaram Kesri, future national president of Indian National Congress.

Early life

He did M.Sc. and LL.B from Banaras Hindu University.
In 1980 Congress provided ticket from Bettiah and he became Member of parliamentLok Sabha, his father name was late Pandit Ramphal Panday. He was born at Taulaha Village, West Champaran District on June 14, 1920. His early schooling took place in Paroraha village along with Vikas Mishra.Later on both went to jail during Indian freedom movement.
He got married with Smt. Kamla Panday on June 6, 1948. He was father of 2 sons and 2 daughters.
By profession he was an Agriculturist as well as Political Worker and Advocate.
He did his practis in District Court of Motihari and Bettiah from year 1945 to 1948. He also enrolled as Advocate in Patna High Court in 1949.

Political career

Before independence he participated in Freedom Movement in 1942 and imprisoned for 11 months. courted arrest three times during 1977-79, when Smt. Indira Gandhi was arrested.
In first General Election's held in 1951 he was contented from ""Bagaha Cum Ram Nagar"" Legislative constituency of Bihar Vidhan Sabha and won.

1. Deputy Minister of Home, Police, Irrigation & Power etc., 1957-62 in Bihar Government
2. Minister of Industry, Agriculture etc., 1970-71 in Bihar Government;
3. Chief Minister of Bihar, 1972–73
4. President, Bihar P.C.C., from 1977
5. Member of A.I.C.C. for the 25 years;
6. participated in Trade Union Movement, 1946–57
7. Vice-Chairman, Bihar INTUC;
8. Member Bihar State Legislature, 1952–62 and 1967-80.
9. he was also a member of Business Advisory Committee.
