Kayode Soremekun


Kayode Soremekun is a Nigerian academic, author of various books, and the second substantive vice chancellor of Federal University Oye Ekiti, Ekiti State.

Early life and education

Soremekun attended Nigeria’s premier secondary grammar school, King's College Lagos, from 1967 to 1971. He then proceeded to the University of Ife now Obafemi Awolowo University where he obtained a trinity of degrees in English/history and International relations..The Ph.D. was on Nigeria’s petroleum policy and international relations.
Kayode Soremekun subsequently undertook postdoctoral studies at the Institute of Social Studies in The Hague, Netherlands and the University of Maryland College Park, US.
In these two institutions, he respectively studied International law and the US foreign policy process.

Soremekun worked in several universities in Nigeria, including Obafemi Awolowo University, University of Lagos, Covenant University and the National Open University of Nigeria

Works

Soremekun has edited several books, some of which are
  1. Governance and Democratization in Nigeria,
  2. Nigeria's Second Republic.
Soremekun has also worked as a journalist. He has worked as a staff writer in political affairs, for Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, and for Times International and Daily Times of Nigeria also as a staff writer. He has also served on the editorial board of the Daily Times Lagos. He was also an editorial training instructor for Times Newspaper Training Centre, Daily Times Lagos. He was also a visiting editorial board member of The AM News; this was a pro-democracy, quasi guerilla newspaper that was at the barricades of struggles and strivings during military rule in Nigeria. And he also worked as a visiting editorial board member of The Guardian and The Compass newspapers. Prior to his assumption of office as Vice-Chancellor Federal University Oye Ekiti he served as chairman of the editorial board of " Business Day" a major business daily newspaper in Nigeria.
Soremekun has published lots of journals on the following areas:
